Professor Jan Tack is currently a Head of Clinic in the Department of Gastroenterology, a Professor in Internal Medicine and Chairman of the Department of Clinical and Experimental Medicine at the University of Leuven, Belgium. Professor Jan Tack is also a Principal Researcher in the Translational Research Center for Gastrointestinal Disorders (TARGID) at the University of Leuven. He is currently one of the top clinical and basic investigators in the field of gastrointestinal motility.

Why you should listen

Professor Jan Tack graduated summa cum laude in 1987 from the Faculty of Medicine, Catholic University of Leuven. Then he specialized in internal medicine and gastroenterology at the same institution. After a research fellow at the Department of Physiology at the Ohio State University, Columbus, Ohio, USA from 1989 to 1990, he completed his internship and gastroenterologist in training at the University Hospitals of Leuven from 1987 to 1994.

He defended his thesis entitled “The physiology of the enteric nervous system in the gastric antrum of the guinea-pig » in 1992.

In 1995 he became Associate Professor at the Faculty of Medicine at the University of Leuven and Head of Clinic in the Department of Internal Medicine, divisions of Gastroenterology and Hepatology in 2002.

 

Professor Tack won several awards for Basic and Clinical Research in Gastrointestinal Science.

 

Professor Tack’s research lies in the field of neurogastroenterology and motility. It includes diverse topics such as the pathophysiology and management of gastrointestinal functional and motor disorders (including GERD, FD, gastroparesis, dumping syndrome, chronic constipation and IBS), the physiology and pharmacology of the enteric nervous system, GI hormones and the control of satiation and food intake.

He has published more than 580 articles and 40 book chapters on various aspects of scientific and clinical gastroenterology.
